Home care (Elderly) – this is for costs associated with the care of elderly people who are living in their own homes. It is often called domiciliary care.

Residential Care (SEN, Disabilities, MH etc) - this is the residential care costs associated with special client groups including Learning Disabilities/SEN, physical disabilities and Mental Health.

Home Care (SEN, Disabilities, MH etc) - this is the home care cost relating to special client groups including Learning Disabilities/SEN, physical disabilities and Mental Health.

Telehealth – cost associated with the installation and operation of telecare and telemedicine equipment.

Community Care Equipment – wheelchairs and other community health and care equipment.

Scientific Equipment - this includes scientific/measurement equipment costs.

Drug, Alcohol & Addiction – expenditure relating to the care of these vulnerable groups.

Homeless Services - expenditure relating to the care of the homeless, including temporary B&B accommodation.

Hospice Care – expenditure relating to the provision of hospice care.

Carer Support Services – costs associated with services that support carers themselves.

Children’s Health & Social Care – non-residential and non-home care services focused on social care and health care for children.

Children's Day Care, inc Nursery - nursery and day care provision for children.

Adult Health & Social Care - many invoices are marked as Adult Social Care. Where possible we determine if these are Home Care, or Residential Care and categorise accordingly. This category is used for invoices for which we can't find a more specific category.

Fostering & Adoption – costs associated with fostering & adoption services.

SEN & Learning Disabilities (general) – non-residential and non-home care services focused on social care and health care for people with Special Educational Needs (including autism).

Special Schools & Children's Res Care - this category is used for non-mainstream schools for special client groups (e.g. SEN and physical disabilities), and also children's homes.

Mental Health (general) – non-residential and non-home care costs focused on social care and health care for people suffering from mental health issues.

Disabilities (general) – this category is for care services for the physically disabled. It is intended to exclude residential care and home care, but there is often an overlap with these other categories.

Advocacy, Mediation & Translation - includes advocacy services for vulnerable groups, language interpreting services and also family mediation services.

Health & Social Care (general) – this is non-residential and non-home care services for people who do not fall into the following client groups – Adult, Children, SEN, Disabilities and Mental Health. Organisations that offer a mix of services for different client groups are often categorised as Health & Social Care (general). Often day care or general services.

Community Services & Advice – this is used for community groups, youth groups and organisations that act as gateways to other social care organisations.

Domestic & Sexual Abuse – expenditure relating to the care of people suffering from domestic and sexual abuse, including women’s aid charities.

Health Consumables & General Supplies – miscellaneous consumables for the Health market.

Acute/Clinical Services – clinical services, delivered both in primary and secondary care settings.

HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis Care – expenditure relating to the care of people with these conditions.

Blood & Transplant – invoices relating to blood and transplant services.

Medical Equipment & Devices – expenditure relating to medical and surgery equipment and devices.

Patient Diagnostics & Imaging - services related to x ray, scanning and health screening services carried out on the patient (pathology services are under Lab & Testing Services).

Fertility & Reproduction – services relating to fertility and reproduction.

R&D (Health) – research and development expenditure relating to health services and outcomes. Note there is also a category called R&D (Scientific & Environmental) which is concerned with non-health research & development projects.

Medical Staff (Doctors & Nurses) - expenditure on Consultants and Registrars etc. Doctors and Nurses provided via a recruitment agency are categorised as Recruitment & Temp Agencies inc Welfare to Work. This category is more generally used when one NHS organisation supplies specified consultants/doctors/nurses to another NHS trust.

Occupational Health – expenditure on occupational therapy and health services.

Prosthetic Devices – costs relating to the supply of prosthetic and orthotic devices.

GP & Primary Care – invoices paid to GP surgeries, treatment centres and Out of Hours services.

Orthopaedics, MSK & Physio – expenditure relating to physiotherapy and MSK services.

Speech Therapy – expenditure on speech therapy.

Dental Services – expenditure on dental services.

Pharmacy – costs relating to the supply of pharmaceuticals and drugs. When councils pay pharmacies it is likely to be for public health projects. 

Eye Care – invoices associated with ophthalmology.

Hearing & Audiology – costs associated with hearing & audiology.

Sexual Health – costs associated with the provision of sexual health services.

Lab & Testing Services - costs associated with the provision of lab, pathology and testing services.

Fertility & Reproduction - invoiced spend relating to these services.

Veterinary Services - invoices paid to vets.

Public Health (general) -this is used for invoices identified as general (unspecified) public health expenditure.

Misc NHS Logistics - this is a unique category in that it only relates to payments made to a single organisation, i.e. NHS Logistics and Supply Chain. We endeavour to categorise payments made to this supplier in using all the categories above. However, many invoices to this supplier have no useful explanatory text, in which case we categorise them with this special category.
